About Amteco BST-100 Biodegradable Stripper
A fast acting, relatively safe paint stripper, which contains no caustic, methylene
chloride, alcohol, petroleum distillate or paraffin wax. Product is combustible,
but not a "red label" flammable. The composition is biodegradable with a greater
than 50% BOD (biodegradable oxygen demand). T BOD of 50% indicates that the product
will be largely removed in a biological wastewater treatment plant. It is very
efficient for the removal of air dry finishes. It may have limited use for some
epoxies and urethanes. This stripper does not darken or damage wood fiber. The
product consistency is that of semi-paste. It continues to penetrate and lift or
soften films for extended periods of time, depending on temperature and humidity,
for up to 24 hours. BST-100 will not damage anodized aluminum. Although the basic
composition appears to have mild handling risks, safety precautions must be followed
carefully for personal protection.
Application:
Apply even wet coat with brush or roll. Although the product may be sprayed,
spraying is not recommended due to the long working life of the remover. Overspray
may result in damage to painted surfaces not scheduled for removal. A high quality
lambs wool cover with phenolic core is the best type of cover to use. Apply stripper
to sample area in order to determine coverage required to lift or dissolve the film.
Excess material on films that blister off is not cost effective. Once the film lifts,
the air pockets behind the film prevent the stripper from wetting the surface behind
it. In case of multiple layers, depending on how many layers a single application
affects, reapplication of stripper may be necessary once the blistered film has been
removed. Since the active ingredients in the stripper evaporate very slowly, scoring
the substrate or working the stripper to maintain uniformly wetted surfaces is
beneficial. The overnight active wet capability is very helpful when working on
large horizontal surfaces to prevent the loosened film from re-adhering to the
substrate.
Removal:
For best results, use a power washer. Allow surface to touch if additional coats of
stripper are required. When power washing is not practical, scraping is acceptable.
Follow the scrubbing, using warm soapy water and a stiff bristle brush.
